Elaine Yu, DO
Undergraduate: John Hopkins University
Graduate: Georgetown University
Medical School: Western University of Health Sciences
Residency: SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospital
Dr. Elaine (Lainey) Yu grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and completed her undergraduate studies in Biophysics and East Asian Studies at Johns Hopkins University. She then received her master's degree in Complementary and Alternative Medicine from Georgetown University and her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences. When not studying, she worked part-time as an outdoor guide leading whitewater kayaking, caving, rock climbing, and backpacking trips, which inspired her interest in wilderness medicine. During residency at SUNY Downstate & Kings County Hospital, she developed a passion for wilderness medical education, low-fidelity simulation training, and austere applications point-of-care ultrasound. She went on to complete a fellowship in Wilderness Medicine at UC San Diego where she researched endurance climbing performance measures while completing her diplomas in mountain and marine medicine. Now, she is excited to join the ultrasound division as their fellow and continue her research on POCUS for swimmers, snorkelers, and divers. In her free time, she can be found underwater, on a cliffside, or in the mountains.
