Dr. Elaine (Lainey) Yu is from the San Francisco Bay Area and grew up with the outdoors as her happy place.  She completed her undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University and graduate studies at Georgetown University, where she picked up rock climbing and caving.  During medical school at Western University of Health Sciences, she found her passion for wilderness medicine and diving.  Thus, she spent four years in the urban wilderness of Brooklyn, NY completing her Emergency Medicine residency at SUNY Downstate and Kings County Hospital.  Now, she is living her dream as a Wilderness Medicine fellow.  Her research interests include wilderness applications of ultrasound, freediving, and endurance climbing.  When not on shift, she can be found underwater, on a cliffside, or in the mountains.
